Prince William & Manassas Family Alliance (PWMFA) First Gala

March 2006

Dear Fellow Citizen:

On Thursday evening, March 16, the Prince William & Manassas Family Alliance (PWMFA) held its first gala.  The venue was the Manassas Holiday Inn, where we had a scrumptious sit-down dinner.  But the best part was the address given by our keynote speaker, U.S. Senator Tom Coburn.  If you missed the event, you missed a good one!

Prince William County Supervisor John Stirrup introduced Senator Coburn, for whom he had worked as chief of staff in the U.S. House of Representatives.  We are so fortunate that a local official had such an exceptional mentor.  We also were honored with the presence of Manassas Mayor Doug Waldron and three of our delegates to the Virginia General Assembly: Jeff Frederick, Scott Lingamfelter and Bob Marshall.  We were also pleased to have with us Mark Aveni, who is a candidate for the Manassas City Council, along with leaders of Eagle Forum, Concerned Women for America, The Leadership Institute, and the Family Foundation.

Senator Coburn confirmed his reputation as a stellar speaker, and waxed eloquent on conservative issues.  Time and again he stressed to us that the real problem in Washington is the unwillingness of Republican and Democrat politicians alike to put the needs of the nation ahead of their own political careers.  Senator Coburn has continued his practice as an Ob.-Gyn. Doctor, and Dr. Coburn told us of the many patients he had seen who had suffered great harm as a result of an abortion, 95% of which were done for “birth control,” not any health issue.

By the way, one of the current goals of PWMFA is to persuade the City of Manassas to regulate the local abortion clinic so that common sense health and safety standards are ensured. Regrettably, the abortion “doctors” don’t want to invest in measures to protect the women who unfortunately view them as the solution to their crisis pregnancy.  Any resistance to such standards by the liberals will certainly emphasize they really don’t care if abortion is safe or rare.

Anyway, Senator Coburn wrapped up his talk with a resounding call to support the Prince William & Manassas Family Alliance!

Victoria Cobb, Executive Director of the Family Foundation of Virginia, with whom the Family Alliance is associated, discussed the Marriage Amendment which will be on the ballot this November.

She showed an ad that had been aired in Texas in opposition to the marriage amendment during last year’s memorandum, an ad featuring two personable lesbians asking “How would you like for the State to tell you that you can’t marry the person you love?”  She warned us to expect an equally emotional bid to defeat the proposed constitutional amendment that will define marriage as between one man and one woman.  She pointed out that airing messages to counter that propaganda will be expensive in Northern Virginia, but it must be done if we are to prevail.

Delegate Lingamfelter, who was one of the founders of PWMFA, closed our evening with a plea to our supporters to commit to monthly donations to the Family Alliance so that we can grow into the strong force for good in our community that we need to be, including the vital battle for the Marriage Amendment.  We ARE your local conservative voice and lobbying arm!

And thus our request to you to support the Family Alliance with a monthly pledge or a generous one-time contribution.  We have no staff salaries to pay.  Every dollar you give will pay for postage and advertising time to get out our message of support for traditional marriage, the sanctity of life, and government policies that respect and support all our traditional and conservative values.

Please give as generously as you can.  Also, if you can pitch in with your time, that would be a tremendous PLUS!  As Senator Coburn noted, the most serious problems facing America relate to the breakdown of the family.  Please invest in our efforts to strengthen the institution of the family and traditional values, starting here in Prince William County.

Sincerely,

Steve Chapman
Chairman
